The area Caloura, to about 500 years was known as the "Valley of the Gourds". This site is one of the first ports of fishing on the island of São Miguel, which still exists in operation, in which artisan fishing practices.
The designation of Caloura name derives from the fact that the first of the Azores nunnery, located in this area have been occupied by monks, called freshmen, to about 300 years.
In the mid-80s, the building where the bar Caloura, which was previously a house maritimos accoutrements, was converted into a bar.
In 2001, Abel Cabral, starts the operation of the bar to the present day, in 2012 the space is expanded, having been converted to restaurant.
